Story Time: I live in New Delhi, India…one of the most oldest cit in the country, great food, good people,forts, markets, this city got it all, one day I was coming back from my college (it was evening) and I was standing at the metro station waiting for the metro to arrive, from a distance I heard laughing so I removed my earbuds and looked around and I saw two white women also waiting for the metro, they looked at me and noticed I was looking at them so came to me and asked “what is the metro route for Jama Masjid?” So the thing is Jama Masjid is a huge mosque and a tourist attraction and its close to Chandni Chowk another very famous Market , but that place is really shady during night and a lot of bad things can happen, even my mother won’t let me go there alone, I told them the risks and told them a couple stories I have heard, we talked for a while and they understood and went back to their hotel,I guess

As someone from a third world country, I approve of this message. Got a good giggle out of me. When i see some first world people go to some of the places here to do whatever, i cringe to my bones, like “you gon’ die or worse”
When it’s night time in the safer areas, you barely see anyone out on the streets for a good reason.
You don’t want to be anywhere where there’s movement except for gas stations and bars or clubs. That’s it, it’s that or home behind your reinforced fences

White people I know act quite… adventurous if not straight up arrogant about their perceived safety regarding travel. Idk what it is, but it’s quite alarming to observe in multiple people how carefree they are. I know a woman, who wants to go to India of all places by herself. And I’m pretty sure even with someone you’re cool with/friend it would still be in danger as you’ll be seen as an easy mark.
I grew up in a third world country, y’all white people don’t fucking know how bad it can get for you playing with your lives like that.

I was backpacking for 5 months through the whole of South-Africa when I was 17. On my own. Had no idea where I was going, just took a bus when it came in. Wasn’t really scared back then, apart from a few moments that were a bit worrying.
Now, 18 years later, if I had a child that age that would be planning something like this there would be absolutely no way in hell. Are you insane? I have no clue why everyone thought this was a good idea back then.
